If a rock falls from the sky and cracks the windshield of your rental car, you are liable for the damage. This point is made clear, somewhere deep inside your rental car contract: you are financially responsible for any damage to the car while it is under your care, whether you caused that damage or not. You certainly already know this, but it still may not sway you to purchase additional insurance for your rental car. After all, what are the chances it will happen to you?

It can happen to you

It's true that the chances of your rental car incurring damage aren't high. But it's also true that once your rental car does incur damage, that probability becomes irrelevant. Here's a scenario to consider:

You arrive at the airport, pick up your bags and head to the rental car service counter. You fill out the paperwork, and are told to select a car from the parking lot. In the parking lot, all of the cars are parked outside. Airplanes are flying overhead. You find a car, throw in your luggage and you are on your way. Two days later, you drop the car off without incident.

Three or four weeks later, you receive a later from your rental car company. If the letter comes from Alamo (which is now part of Enterprise), it may say: "Our Damage Recovery Unit has received notification of damaged or loss to the vehicle you rented...If you have not already done so, please contact your insurance company and/or credit card company to report this claim to them."

Your word against theirs

At this point, there's no way for you to prove that the reported damage didn't happen while the car was in your care--even if you never saw the reported damage. Indeed, it isn't inconceivable that a rock did fall from the sky and put a tiny knick in the car's windshield, before you slipped the keys into the door. But alas, it doesn't matter. That damage is your responsibility.

If you dispute the claim, the car rental company will notify the management of the drop-off location that reported the damage. You can expect those managers to confirm that the damage is, without question, your responsibility. From there, you have no choice but to figure out how to pay for it.

Do your own walk-arounds

According to an Alamo representative, the counter attendants in airport service centers generally don't do "walk-arounds" of the vehicle before you drive away; they simply don't have the time. Therefore, the only way to protect yourself against paying for pre-existing damage to a rental car is to do your own walk-around. Inspect the car carefully and make note of all scratches, knicks and dents. Then go back to the service counter and get someone to document those damages. Don't expect this process to be easy either; if they don't have time to do the walk-around themselves, they may not be thrilled by your request.

When you return the car, ask your attendant to inspect the car immediately. Ask for something in writing indicating the car had no damage when you returned it. Be prepared to wait. If it's a problem, you can always take pictures of the car after you hand over the keys.

After the fact

Once you've already been stuck with the liability, you can use your car insurance, any insurance provided by your credit card issuer, and your own money to pay for the damage. First, verify your deductible on your insurance policy. Then, check with your credit card issuer; sometimes, the card-provided insurance will at least pay the deductible. If you don't want to risk a rising auto policy premium, you can collect on your card-provided insurance and cover the remainder on your own.

It can be hard to eat healthy foods when there is a McDonald’s or an Arby’s on every street corner. It can be even more difficult for those who work from home. Telecommuters have flexible hours, unpredictable work schedules, and do not always have the time to make the best food. So it is understandable why so many work-at-homers are interested in fast, easy ways to make delicious, nutritious, and healthy foods. There are a few different strategies that the work at homer and the telecommuter can employ to make sure that he/she has lots of easy, healthy foods on hand.

The first step to getting healthy is purging your environment of all things unhealthy. This includes just about anything that is fried, dunked, dipped, or battered, everything that uses high-fructose corn syrup, and the Itos food group (Fritos, Doritos, Cheetos, etc.). It is easy to leave these foods stashed in convenient places around the house, especially in and around the work area. It has all got to go. Everything. It might hurt a little at first, but nothing kills junk food cravings like giving up junk food.

Now that all of the unhealthy food has been trashed, it is time to restock the pantry. Fresh foods are the staple of any healthy diet. Normally, fresh foods line the perimeter of a grocery store, with offerings such as fruits and veggies, fresh meat, cheese, milk, eggs, and the like. This is where the majority of shopping time and resources should be spent. Fresh food has more vitamins, nutrients, and flavor, and is also digested and processed much more easily than processed or packaged foods. Journeys to the center aisles of the store should be limited, and items should be listed to avoid being lured by the bright packaging and empty promises of the happiness characteristic of today’s food marketing. The best foods found in the center aisles include brown rice and flour, beans and nuts, and certain canned foods (ones not too high in sodium). (A word on brown Vs. white foods: Any time a food like rice or flour is offered in brown and white, it is because one has been “enriched” or “processed”. “Enriched” and white together mean bleached. If you would never drink laundry supplies, please avoid white flour and rice.)

Okay, so now that the pantry is chock full of delicious, healthy foods, it is time to eat! But who has time to cook a full meal, three times a day?! Not somebody who has a flexible or unpredictable schedule. A good way to provide some structure to a new eating routine is to cook in bulk. One day a week, make three oversized entrees. That way all the leftovers can be individually frozen, reheated, and eaten on the spur of the moment. Replacing the old snack foods for something natural, with lots of complex carbs like carrots or beans is a fast track for healthy success. These new strategies should help reduce the desire to default back to the –Itos food group, and help maintain a new happy and healthy lifestyle.

With there being many symptoms for diabetes, there are some that are more prone to cause the problem in the first place. Being able to pick up on these diabetes symptoms early on can help one cure the problem permanently before it becomes a life long illness. With there being many symptoms we are only going to take a look at the five most popular diabetes symptoms that are guaranteed to lead on to one suffering from diabetes.

One of the most popular diabetes symptoms is known to include one experiencing frequent urination. If you find yourself going to the bathroom to urinate more than five times a day, there is a high chance that you may be developing diabetes. There could be the odd occasion where you do urinate frequently due to a regular consumption of liquids. However in the case of being diabetic you will experience urination in quick succession.

Another popular diabetes symptom that is quite serious is experiencing unusual weight loss. If you are going to the gym or trying to lose weight, one can expect to lose a couple of pounds in a period of two to three months of exercise. If you experience rapid weight loss such as five pounds within a span of two weeks, you should go and get your self checked by a doctor. Not picking up on this symptom early on is known to cause a lot of problems in the future.

Excessive thirst and hunger is also seen to fall under the category of diabetes symptoms. Suffering from such a symptom will see you feeling thirsty and hungry too frequently and excessively during the day. This is a symptom that is easily noticeable as you would be able to compare it to how you use to eat and drink before suffering from this problem. If you suffer from excessive thirst and hunger on a regular basis it is advised to contact a physician immediately.

Blurry vision is also known to fall under the diabetes symptoms category. These diabetes symptoms should not be confused with a weak eye sight. Suffering from blurry vision is when an individual experiences blurred vision unexpectedly. This is quite different from a weak eye sight where an individual has a continuous problem of seeing. If you suffer from these diabetes symptoms make sure you consult an eye specialist at first to make sure it isn't a weak eye sight.

The last most common diabetes symptom is increased fatigue. Finding yourself suffering from fatigue on a regular basis for example a continuous period of three to four days, the chances are that you are suffering from diabetes.

These symptoms are quite easy to pick up on as long as you know what they are. If you find yourself suffering from any of the above symptoms it is highly advised, that you see a doctor immediately. Even if you have doubts that your problems are not as serious, still get them checked. It is better to be safe than sorry.

Eating disorders are a very controversial topic. They vary in type and severity, and are affecting an increasing number of people. The first piece of advice would be to seek medical help as soon as you are aware that someone you know has an eating disorder. Medical professionals can then decide on the best course of action. The following are three of the most common eating disorder treatment options.

Getting Immediate Care

The most urgent aspect of getting treatment for eating disorders is the physical side. Although the root cause is not physical, they can be fatal. Malnourishment is not the only health risk associated with eating disorders. It is also important to be aware that weight is not necessarily an indicator of health; someone with anorexia can be slightly overweight. You also need to take other underlying health concerns into account when assessing the physical dangers. Some of the more serious side effects are heart attacks, strokes, electrolyte imbalance, liver failure, muscle wastage and in some cases a torn esophagus from vomiting. It is essential to deal with these physical problems before dealing with the mental issues, as there are many fatalities associated with these disorders.

Admitting the Problem

While eating disorders have extreme physical consequences, they are actually mental in origin. The physical impact is only a symptom of the underlying problem. They are a kind of addiction, and like any kind of addiction, the biggest battle is admitting that you have a problem so that you can start dealing with it. The two most common eating disorders are Anorexia and Bulimia; they are caused by distorted body image, telling you that you are fat and will be happier if you can lose weight. The desire to lose weight becomes an obsession until the physical problems begin to arise. One of the biggest challenges sufferers face is admitting the problem to themselves, admitting that they distorted image they have of themselves is incorrect so they can begin to break the cycle. Most of the time, it will take a trained medical professional to help them break this cycle of obsession.

Receiving Ongoing Treatment

Ongoing treatment for eating disorders is in depth and varied. Counseling will be necessary in order to promote healthy body image. It is often important to find a trigger too; it may be a symptom of yet another mental problem such as depression and these disorders are almost always linked with low self esteem. Dealing with these ongoing psychological issues must happen in conjunction with physical care, ensuring that the sufferers eat normally and do not attempt to purge their bodies afterwards. It may be necessary to have a period of residential care where the sufferer will learn new healthier habits which they can take back to their normal life.

These three steps are vital for overcoming eating disorders. Seeking medical help is always the first step; don't attempt to control some ones eating disorder alone if you aren't a trained professional.

Sometimes, it can seem as though your boss is intent on starting arguments with you at every turn. Everything you do can seem to set them off, to the point that you are avoiding having any kind of contact with them to avoid the potential conflict.

When it comes to any arguments, you know that nothing good will ever come out of it. Each side wants to win, and no one is going to be willing to back down. And, in the case of your boss, they have even more at stake if they give in – because they will feel their authority is being challenged.

If you are already in a hostile workplace, it is a good idea for you to try avoiding arguments the best you can. How? It isn’t always easy to do, but here are some suggestions for you to try.

Actually listen to what the other person is saying. I know that it might be hard, especially if you aren’t the one who has initiated the argument, (bosses are very often the ones who will start it). But, you need to understand exactly what they are saying if you want to be able to respond rationally, and show that you are not going to be baited into arguing with them.

Don’t add more controversy into the mix. Responding with statements that will make your boss more agitated, like “You don’t know what you are talking about”, are never a good idea. Don’t give them the feeling that you are confronting them, which will only get them on the defensive. Even if you don’t agree with them – sometimes you just have to be the bigger person, no matter how difficult that may be.

Take over the situation. This does take some skill, but it works wonderfully. When your boss has become totally out of control, simply flip the situation over. Stop them dead in their tracks by saying their name, (addressing them however you normally do), and then ask them to clarify what they are saying because you are having a hard time following them. This can sometimes help them to calm down a bit and speak more rationally. However, it won’t be easy for you to stay calm during this process, but if you can do it, you will get much better results.

If you can learn how to avoid arguments in your workplace, you might just be able to tolerate being around your boss more. Knowing that you are not going to be baited into an argument may make them realize that it is not worth their time.

However, you should always know your legal rights, especially if you do feel that your workplace environment is hostile. Some bosses will just keep trying to start a fight, no matter what you do to avoid the argument – and in these situations, you need to be prepared to learn what your rights are, especially if you feel that your job is being threatened.

Emilee has worked in a hostile workplace, and feels that it is very important for everyone to have effective coping strategies - and to understand their legal rights. You probably have experienced some form of body pain, or know someone who suffers from it in a serious nature. Pain can affect lives to a great degree and stop you from carrying out your functions in an ordinary way. So is there any benefit of visiting a pain management specialist?

Pain management specialists are physicians who have specialized in addressing the concerns of patients to function on a daily basis, and to bring back quality in their life. Those suffering from chronic medical conditions are most likely to be referred to a pain management specialist, to help them deal with the pain and reach a sense of normalcy in their lives.

A specialist devises a plan that is designed to offer to treatment to the patient in the form of reliving, reducing or managing the pain. The key here is that patients are instilled with a sense of returning back to their everyday lives and activities without a heavy reliance on medication or the need for any form of surgery.

The pain management specialist is not a physician of normal degree; instead, there is a reliance on a team of health professionals to ensure that the treatment plan for the patient is administered in the best way possible. These professionals include physiatrists, oncologists, psychiatrists, nurses and physical therapists.

One key benefit of seeking a pain management specialist is that they are concerned with providing the patient with an overall quality of life, and hence, look into providing the best possible method of doing so without any adverse conditions developing in the body. Additionally, they are responsible for treating the whole patient, not just one part of the body.

Pain management specialists are aware of the mental pressures that pain causes, and while they are prepared to help you gain short-term relief through medication, they are more in line with developing long-term plans with the design of offering a way to overcome the pain in a more balanced form, and where possible through natural means.

The process used by pain management specialists is to understand the cause of the pain, especially if the diagnosis is difficult. This requires a study of the patient's medical history, as well as physical and neurological examinations like X-rays, CT scan, MRI and PET scan. The results of these tests help the pain management specialist to devise the best way for the patient to seek treatment. This means that the specialist can then advise whether to seek surgery, medicines or therapy, and can assemble a team of medical professionals to implement the plan in an ideal way.

So, if you or someone you know suffers from a serious or chronic form of pain, you can seek the help of a pain management specialist to get the professional and sound advice, as well as a plan, that will help you resume your daily activities. Just remember that you are not alone and that there are professionals out there that are trained to help you.

As autism is a disorder of the nerves and their development, resulting in some form of impairment in the social and communicative skills of the individual, the autism symptoms of each child will be different. Autism symptoms are normally displayed by children in their first couple of years of growth and development, and require a strong observation to pick up on. However, with patience and good observation parents are able to detect the first signs and symptoms of autism.

Parents tend to be the first ones to notice autism symptoms, since they spend more time than others with the child. What is important is for parents to understand the symptoms in order to better identify the nature, and the reasoning behind these being acted out.

Early diagnosis of autism can help in early assistance and support being provided to the child, which can help in skills and abilities being improved over the years. This is essential if some form of communication and self-help needs to be instilled in the child with autism symptoms, as no cure exits.

Some of the symptoms that parents should be on the lookout include the following:

• If a child is showing a great deal of difficulty in learning language or oral communication. This is a common autism symptom, where the child is unable to babble or speak a single word, even at an age of 2 years

• If a child does not show any form of appropriate response to a gesture. This could be anything from making eye contact with the respective person, or showing a degree of resistance to being cuddled or picked up. The symptom here to look for is a child being out of tune to the world, and seeming to be in his own environment altogether

• Another symptom is where the individual shows a lack of understanding for another's feelings. So if a joke is being shared, or tears are being shed, there is the same response on both counts; the response normally being inattentiveness or a blank face

• For a child who is unable to play with other children or shows a lack of ability to be more cooperative with other children, shows some level of autism

• A child crying excessively or throwing tantrums without reason can also be considered as an autism symptom

By no way are the above stated to be hard and fast autism symptoms, as there could be other reasons for some of them. But all of them put together should give parents some understanding of seeking assistance from medical experts in regards to their child's individual behavior. The child's doctors will be able to further test and then determine if there are any signs of autism in the child.

All parents should keep in mind the above autism symptoms when caring for their child in the early years of development. By having an understanding of autism symptoms, the chance for early prognosis and initiation of support can prove quite beneficial in the later years of the individual.

Do you love your job – looking forward to getting to work every day so that you can feel productive and appreciated? Or, do you feel that your job is a place you have to go – and you don’t feel that you can show your true strengths, not to mention ever feel appreciated?

Many people are simply going to work in order to get a paycheck – it would be wonderful if your job was a great place to be, but the truth is, for many people, it isn’t a place where they feel valued or where they can look forward to going. Sometimes, if you are lucky, you will have a few people at your job that you enjoy being around, and who you can build relationships with, but most likely, your boss isn’t one of those people.

Sometimes, even though it may be the hardest thing you have ever done – (you would rather watch your boss fall off a 30 story building) – you might have to take the steps towards building some kind of relationship that will help you to deal with your job easier. Find ways to relate to them, maybe even find a common bond. Ask them about their families, their hobbies - even what they feel is in store for your company or what they like about working with them. Showing a genuine interest in what they are doing, and in things that are happening in their lives, will help them to possibly see you on more level ground.

If you are able to show some interest in your boss’s life, you might be surprised how they end up reacting. Everyone wants to feel that people are interested in their lives, and your boss is no different. And, it is worth a try in order to make your job more tolerable, and it might even get your boss to get off your back if they seem intent on harassing you.

Of course, that isn’t always going to work, so you still need to research and understand your legal rights, especially if it has got to the point that you are working in a hostile workplace environment. When it has got to the point that no matter what you do or say, your boss will never show you the respect that an employee deserves from their boss, then obviously no amount of relationship building will work. Some people just feel that they are “above” others, and they enjoy making others feel inferior.

In most cases, this will have nothing to do with you, so don’t take it personally. But, be prepared to know your rights when it crosses the line into, what you believe, is workplace harassment. Every employee has rights that they need to understand, especially if they feel their jobs are in jeopardy. No one needs to suffer through that – and you won’t be doing yourself any favors by allowing it to continue.

Emilee has worked in a hostile workplace environment, and feels that it is very important for everyone to have effective coping strategies - and to understand their legal rights. She offers a review of a guide that outlines employee rights, and regulations which are in place to protect them, which you can read by going to HostileWorkplaceEnvironment.com

With all the stresses in our lives in today's day and age, we all need some way to relax and unwind. Having too much stress can not only cause mental problems and anxieties, but can also manifest itself in physical problems as well. Some of these include high blood pressure, hypertension, stomach ulcers, just to name a few of the many. It can effect our sleeping habits, sex life, and make relationships difficult. It can effect not only you personally, but everyone around you as well.

So how can we relieve all of these stresses? While there are many different ways to do this, and each person has their own, many are starting to turn to meditation as a way to relieve stress and anxieties that occur in every day lives. It isn't hard to do, is cheaper than therapy, and is very effective. The idea behind meditation is consciously relaxing the body and mind, through a variety of different techniques, each that have their own methods. Some methods want you to focus on certain things, like a quiet and relaxing spot on the beach, while others simply allow your mind to wander off, like sleeping, but in a different state of mind.

No matter which method you try, there are things that they all have in common. The first is that they involve deep breathing exercises. Deep breathing does a number of different things. For one, breathing exercises get you to focus on something other than your stress. You are focusing on your breathing, counting the length of time you breathe in, and out. It also gets much more oxygen into your blood stream, which is good for your cells, and your brain, in order to function properly. It slows down your heart beat, because it doesn't need to work as hard to pump oxygen through your body. All of these work together to help you start to relax.

They next thing all of these techniques have in common is that you need to do them every day, at least once a day, for twenty to thirty minutes. Some say you need more time, some say less. Many of us don't have that kind of time throughout the day, but if you can spend just ten or fifteen minutes twice a day, then a longer period before bed time, you will get the same benefits.

Common to all forms of meditation is that you need to be in a place with little or no distractions. You can use music if it helps you, and there are verbal things you can say to get you focused on meditation, rather than what is going on around you. It is best to be sitting in a comfortable chair, with the lights dimmed. You don't want it dark, or the chair so comfortable that you fall asleep, because meditation is not sleep, but a higher state of consciousness.

Many businesses today are starting to realize the need for meditation in the work place, in order to keep stress levels down. Some companies even require employees to take a ten to twenty minute break just for meditation, and have rooms set aside for this purpose. The idea is that it more productive to do this, than the time lost from employees getting sick from the stresses at work.

If you are wanting to learn to meditate, then you have come to the right place. While you can probably find an abundance of different ways to meditate, here is one simple way that doesn't cost a penny, is easy to do, and can be done by anyone. It is quite effective for not only relieving stress on a regular basis, but can also be a base for healing a number of different ailments. So if you need to relieve stress and anxiety, or want a good start to fix what ails you, then listen up.

The first step is finding a nice, quiet area. This can be in a bedroom, a corner of your home or office, whatever. Now it is a good idea to have absolutely no distractions for at least twenty to thirty minutes, ten to do your deep breathing exercises, and twenty for the actual meditation. In order to get into the proper mood, you need a comfortable chair, and the lights turned down low. You can light some candles to get this mood going. You don't want to be so comfortable that you will fall asleep, just deeply relaxed. You can also play some music, but soft music is preferred, or even a CD with nature sounds, like waves crashing, or a babbling brook, something soft.

Sit in your chair in a comfortable position, feet flat on the floor. Close your eyes, and breath slowly and deeply through your nose, holding it in for a few seconds once your lungs are full, then breathe out slowly through your mouth. Do this for five minutes, not really thinking about anything, letting go of the tension. There are two reasons for this. One is that breathing like this fills your body with oxygen. The second is that it forces you to pause.

If you find that you open your eyes once in awhile, don't worry about it, and don't force yourself to keep your eyes closed. Open them, look around check the clock, then close your eyes again. Now, with your eyes closed, picture yourself in front of a quiet pond that has a bunch of stones or pebbles. These are the thoughts and stresses in your life. These can also represent illnesses, cancers, or what ever your problem at the time might be. One by one, remove these stones and place them aside. It is a good idea to limit the amount of stones to ten or fifteen of the most important things that you want to get rid of, so you aren't spending the whole time taking out stones. This should be about ten minutes.

Now here is where you can really customize your meditative experience. For just regular meditation, you want to put stones back into the pond that associate with things that represent relaxation or good aspects of your life. Maybe you could fill it with things that you dream about wanting, that nice house, your ideal partner, etc. For healing, this is when you focus on the part of your body that is ill, or needs help healing, like a broken bone mending, getting stronger, or antibodies killing that cancer. Do this for another ten minutes. The last five minutes, use your deep breathing exercises again, and slowly bring yourself back to reality. Now don't expect a miracle, but if you do this on a regular basis, it will work.

Paintings are just few of the media which can show the evolution of art over the past centuries. Many artworks were even made during the prehistoric times when cavemen painted animals and rituals on their cave walls. At present, other styles of painting are widely used like abstract, expressionism, landscape, and symbolism. The abstract technique of painting plays with color and form that it communicates a theme that is in a non-figurative way. Abstracts are originally connected to the futurist and cubist artworks of the 20th century. Creations like these present the viewers a simplified form of shapes and figures that they only give inherent qualities instead of the external appearance of the subject. Abstract creations can also be called as non-objective, non representational and non-figurative art. Some critics say that such creations can depict cultural phenomenon. Wassily Kandisky, one of the most known painters in the world specializing in painting abstracts said that, in abstract painting, an artist should possess high sensitivity and a sense of true poet to create a good abstract masterpiece.

Expressionism art, on the other hand, is a style in which a painter exaggerates or twists an image of reality in order to achieve an intense emotional effect. This technique is not only used in painting but also in other art forms like film, literature, music, and even architecture. The art of expressionism often portrays masterpieces whose main subject center most on torment and emotional anguish. Even though the name “expressionism” originally pertains to the artworks of the 20th century, it is not exclusive to this century alone. This form of art has always been connected to the paintings found in Germany during the early centuries so it was believed that expressionism was already a recognized art even before it became popular in other parts of the world.

The next style of painting is landscape whose name came from the Dutch word ‘landschap’. This word originally means ‘a part of a cultivated rich land with a picturesque view’, thus the idea of landscapes. Common landscape subjects are mountains, forests, rivers, and valley sceneries. This type of technique had been most popular even during the Roman times when breath-taking sceneries are often painted on the frescoes. During the 15th century in Europe, landscape painting was seen as a special field of expertise. Landscape art was also effectively used in mapping and documenting newly found lands during the early years of the 20th century.

The last type of painting technique is “symbolism”. This style of painting is one of the most popular artistic movements that originated from French and Belgian poetry during the 19th century. Symbolism art has always been described as a crossover of naturalism and realism art because of its ability in capturing reality even though it uses subjects that subtly symbolizes the message of an artwork. Symbolism is different from abstract art in such a way that the symbolism gives more solid connection to the subject and the message while abstract art plays with the subconscious mind of its viewers.
