You might be surprised to learn that Rolls and Royce were actual people. Frederick Royce built the first Royce vehicles in 1904. He was a British electrical equipment manufacturer. The three two cylinder cars that Royce had built are what attracted Charles Rolls. Charles had been a car enthusiast for a long time and was the son of a baron. He had a dealership in London and was impressed with Royce’s engineering. They decided to become partners and it was decided that Royce would build the cars and Rolls would sell them.
In 1907 they introduced the Silver Ghost. It had a 6 cylinder engine and the inside was painted silver. This is the vehicle that got them noticed. Their reputation for reliability was cemented when the car was driven over 15,000 miles (very high ,ileage in those days) without having much wear on the car. Sadly, in 1910 Rolls was flying his biplane and crashed. He was killed instantly.
The Silver Ghost’s chassis was fortified and it was used as a combat car during WWI. After the war, the Jazz Age followed and people had money to spend. The Rolls Royce car was known by the nickname of Rollers. They even introduced a Baby Roller which was a little smaller. At this time, big cars were still very popular and the company introduce the Phantom I and Phantom II during the 1920’s.
The Rolls Royce Company grew much larger in the heady days of the 1980's. The Silver Spur and the Silver Spirit were both huge square looking, ultra luxury cars. They were the ultimate status symbol. In 2003 the company introduced an all new Phantom that was available as a coupe, convertible or sedan. In 2004 the Rolls Royce Company celebrated its 100th Anniversary.
Rolls Royce recently introduce the Rolls Royce Ghost and it is packed full of power and luxury. This mean machine can go from zero to sixty in 4.8 seconds. It also has a top speed of 155mph. The engine is a 6.6 liter turbo charged V12. Besides being powerful it is also the one of the most luxurious vehicles on the market today. The interior has a contemporary feel and has a combination of natural wood veneers and soft leather to let you drive in style.
You probably will never be one of the elite to own a Rolls Royce or even have the pleasure of riding in one. When Ferruccio Lamborghini decided to start building cars he already had two factories. One of them produced air conditioners and the other tractors. He wanted to take on Ferrari’s cars because he felt they were too noisy and plain looking. He envisioned a car that was powerful and fast with a luxurious interior to appeal to the elite who had money to spend and were concerned about looks and luxury.
In 1963, his first dream car, the 350 GTV, was introduced at the Turin Auto Show. In 1966, the Lamborghini Miura was produced. 1968 was when he produced the Lamborghini Espada 400 GT and it was a major hit over the next ten years. The wealthy playboy’s in the 1960’s preferred the brightly colored Lamborghini Miura and they could be found parked in major international airports and hotel resorts around the wealthy parts of the world frequented by the jet set.
The 1970’s were a dark period for the Lamborghini Company. The company was suffering, just like all the other automakers, with the oil and economic crisis of the 1970s. Ferruccio sold most of his holding to Georges Henri Rossetti, a wealthy Swiss car enthusiast. The company continued, but without its founder it lost some of its direction and creativity.
The company went downhill from there until it was sold to Patrick and Jean Claude Mimran in 1980. The company than went on to be owned by Chrysler until in 1998, Audi stepped in and bought the company. It introduced the Murcielago and the car dubbed the “baby Lamborghini”, the Gallardo.
Recently the company has introduced the Lamborghini Reventon that is based on the Murcielago sports car. Its design was inspired by the F22 Raptor fighter jet. It is an open top car that has an aggressive wedge shape. The interior of exclusive vehicle reminds you of a modern plane cockpit.
It has a V12 engine that can go from zero to sixty two miles per hour in 3.4 seconds. It has a top speed of 205 mph. The Reventon is available in only one color and that was specially created for this powerful car.

When the name Porsche is mentioned it automatically brings to mind a fast sleek racing machine. The type of car, automotive dreams are made of. The Porsche marquee was in the works long before Ferdinand Porsche started his own car manufacturing company. Over his illustrious career, which spanned over fifty years, he worked with Daimler, Mercedes, Daimler Benz and Volkswagen.
In 1931 it was Ferdinand’s independent design firm that came up with the design for the Volkswagen Beetle. He started out as a test driver and draftsman at his father’s firm. To help keep his family afloat during hard times he designed race cars and the first Porsche sports car that would begin the legacy.
The Porsche 356 was the first car under this brand and it had an enhanced 40 horsepower Volkswagen engine and the rest of the parts came from wherever he could find them. A Porsche 356 won its first race just 1 month after the first vehicle left the factory.
Regular production started on the 356 in 1950 and was followed up in 1954 with a speedster vehicle. In 1956, just six years after the first one rolled out of the factory the 10,000th Porsche was finished. The company did not find its flagship model until 1963. It was the 911 and is still an icon today. It had a 2.0 liter 6 cylinder engine. Within the decade, the entry level, high performance and Targa versions were released.
The Porsche 356 ended production in 1965; however its engine was in the entry level 912. In 1987 the 250,000th Porsche 911 rolled off the factory floor. Porsche has always been a winner on the race track. The 356SL had a victory at Le Mans in 1951 and the 550 Spyder took its first overall victory at the Targa Florio.
Today the company is still building on its strong pedigree, both on and off the race track, and has refocused its development of the flagship 911. In July of 1996 the one millionth Porsche was rolled off the factory line. Today, there are four basic models of Porsche on the market and they include the Boxster, the Cayman, the Cayman SUV and the 911.

He painted a black horse on the side of his planes for good luck; so Enzo decided to use the same symbol for his cars.
The Bentley badge is the capital letter B with wings. It can be seen on a vehicle as a hood ornament or as a flat emblem. This logo appeared on the first test care in 1919 a Bentley 3 ½ liter. The B on the badge is for Bentley and the wings symbolize the speed of their cars.
The Bugatti has two different logos. One is the letters EB, with the E backwards and the other is a red oval with the name Bugatti spelled out. Both of the logos are in reference to the founder Ettore Bugatti. In 1910 the first Bugatti had the red oval and the second logo can be seen on later models when the company was reincarnated.
The Jaguar has two different hood ornaments. One is just a cat’s face and the other is a full bodied jaguar leaping from the hood of the car. The leaping jaguar was used on the vehicles made before WWII and the face was in use by the 1950’s.
It doesn’t matter if you own a fancy sports car or a compact car, both need to be protected from the harsh elements, such as the sun.
